MARLAB's story began in 2016 with a €5 million EU Horizon project. The high-efficiency and compact-design experience we gained developing medical electric motors with our Hungarian technology partner Innovay "It was the spark that steered us toward today's marine propulsion systems."
Systematic R&D on in-water propulsion began; efficiency know-how from medical motor technology was adapted to the marine environment and the first test rigs were built.
Detailed magnetic analyses and theoretical work were validated through controlled pool tests. The high torque-per-kW ratios confirmed the soundness of our design approach. "With this step that carried our medical electric-motor expertise into fluid dynamics, our first commercial marine motor prototype came to life."
Calculations on paper became field-verified performance data.
Our first field project took place in Dalyan. The boat, fitted with solar panels and an electric propulsion system, was launched; our engineering know-how took shape for the first time as a scalable commercial product. "This boat moving silently on the river was the sign that MARLAB had moved from R&D to production."
2022
From a single prototype to a scalable motor family.
With the Gölbaşı Fatih 18 project, our electric propulsion systems were integrated into a high-capacity shuttle boat for the first time. The uninterrupted power and operational durability required for passenger transport were proven in the field — MARLAB was no longer offering only motors, but commercial fleet conversion. "With the Fatih Gölbaşı project, MARLAB became the reference solution partner the sector turns to for electric boat conversions."

We no longer offer only motors — we deliver complete boat solutions from hull to electrical system.
With the Balık Sefası project, MARLAB moved beyond being only a motor supplier to become an engineering firm that optimizes overall efficiency under one roof — from hull to propulsion, solar integration to software control. "Hull design is now in our hands — because true efficiency starts not from the motor, but from the boat as a whole." Today we continue as an engineering firm that has completed the electric conversion of more than 10 boats and partnered on more than 40 projects.
